Just gotta' tell you how much I love having Maddie. Monday she was working with Mrs. Neely and having a hard time sitting still. I asked" Do you have ants in your pants?" She said "Wait, I'll check" then replied "no, Flowers".
Today while going potty she kicked me out... she needed "privacy". :) Kathie Barao 3.09

Nothing is quite so satisfying as watching Madison eat a good meal. Every bite seems to fortify her body for the next task. After clowning around with her brother Kevin and cousin Owen at the "kids" table, she gets down to business with her Auntie Amy who helps her to get all the cheesy goodness of broccoli, chicken and spaghetti into and, of course, around her mouth.
Later, on my lap eating chocolate covered strawberries, the very life, warmth and sweet smell of her hair overwhelms me. It is just Maddie and me in a little bubble surrounded by the beautiful pandamonium of a family dinner. The many miles we have covered since her birth flash through my mind and I see moments:
Her first walk on her own around gramma's house, visiting spaces and touching things with a satisfied grin on her face. Her sandy, sticky hand pressed in mine as we say goodbye to the sand, seagulls and ocean as we leave the beach. Her stubborn exclamation, "No, I do it!" and she actually can do it! Picking up the toys while singing "Clean up, Clean up..." Proudly helping set the table, carrying napkins (no matter how many times they drop), folding (well, kind of), and placing them carefully. Giggling and saying, "Oopsy!" after a tumble, strugglng to successfully get up once again. Running in her uneven gait, full throttle for the ball and she kicks it! Staring at me intently while I sing "The Wheels on the Bus", repeating, "Swish, swish, swish" then demanding, "-Gain!"
The last strawberry consumed, the bubble pops. A full two-arms-up body hug, a kiss and she gets down. She turns, tilts and nods her head,"I'll be back, -Kay?!" And she is on her way.
I am left to watch and wonder about her journey. So much spunk and determination and so many miles to go...
God, I love her so!
